AY celebrates tenth birthday

Alexander Young is celebrating after notching up ten years in business. Brian Young and Lorraine Birch set up the company, which provides document storage and archiving facilities for some of the region’s best known businesses, in 1997.

Employing 11 specialists and now in its third home - following spells at Preston’s Docklands and Wellfield Road – the business is now planning for its next period of growth.

“The emergence of the ‘paperless office’ and increased red tape has been a challenge but ones which we have actually used to our customers’ benefit,” said Brian Young. “We have an IT infrastructure which has made us quicker and more efficient whilst meeting the demands of red tape has improved our accountability.

“The physical growth of the company has resulted in three moves in ten years and in Bute Mill, we have a first class storage facility and we are now on the look out for additional sites.

“Thankfully, we work with some great companies and they have all been influential in our growth. It’s a proud achievement and our gratitude goes to everyone who has played a role.”

Lorraine added that it is a commitment to customer service which has enabled Alexander Young to reach its ten year milestone. “Right from day one, customer service has been the centre of our approach. There is no doubt that the business world has evolved enormously during that period but as any service company will certify, good service secures loyalty and we will maintain this ethos for the next ten years and beyond.”
IIP and ISO secured

Alexander Young has secured the highly regarded Investors in People (IIP) and ISO accreditations.

The Investors in People Standard is a national framework for delivering business improvement through people. Since it was developed the Standard has been reviewed every three years to ensure that it remains relevant and accessible.

Alexander Young has also been recognised for its commitment to service and quality by the internationally acknowledged standards programme, ISO after being approved the BS EN ISO 9001 standard.

Alexander Young was subjected to external examination of its working practices, including its commitment to carrying out a rigorous customer satisfaction programme, which is acted upon to achieve continuous improvement.

Lorraine Birch said: “People and performance are at the heart of our business and this news gives customers the confidence that our systems and procedures are of the highest standard.”
Scanning service
goes live

Following a successful pilot scheme, Alexander Young has officially launched a new scanning service which converts hardcopy documents to electronic format.

We can scan your documents to save space or to increase accessibility of your records through the creation of word searchable electronic documents. Lorraine Birch said: “The customers who piloted the scheme found it extremely useful when requiring urgent copies of files. This is something I am sure will be of use to more customers.”

Make your
business green

A Make Your Business Green campaign has been launched by Alexander Young in an attempt to get more businesses recycling.

A new set of waste paper bins are available at a one-off cost of £10 per bin with three sacks. Further supplies of sacks are available at £3.60 for a pack of ten.

Waste paper is collected free of charge but there is a cost for the actual confidential destruction and recycling of all paper material.

“We see many businesses struggle to recycle,” says Brian Young. “Local councils often don’t make provisions for commercial recycling which can mean one of two things; waste paper gets thrown away or a member of staff has to go to the local recycling centre. Neither are adequate solutions so we hope to help more businesses make a contribution to safeguarding our environment. It’s a small price for a huge saving.”
